State the export-ready details upfront
International buyers need: country of origin, VAT status, dimensions and weight for shipping estimation, and any regulatory restrictions. Listings that omit these details generate time-wasting back-and-forth from serious buyers.
Price in USD or EUR alongside local currency
If you want cross-border interest, add a USD or EUR equivalent price. This removes the mental friction of currency conversion and anchors expectations for buyers in other markets.
Estimate shipping costs before listing
Nothing kills a cross-border sale faster than discovering post-negotiation that shipping makes the deal uneconomical. Run the item through a shipping cost estimator for your main target markets before you set the price.
Use escrow or tracked payment for high-value items
For items above 300, offer a recognised payment method with buyer protection. Never ask for bank wire to a foreign account as the only option. PayPal Goods and Services, Stripe payment links, or marketplace checkout provide the verification infrastructure that converts skeptical cross-border buyers.
Photograph for customs documentation
Customs authorities require photo documentation matching the declared goods. Photograph your item against a clean background from multiple angles. Include the serial number in at least one photo. This also protects you in any dispute about condition at delivery.
Know your export rules
Some categories require export documentation or are restricted from sale to certain countries. A 10-minute check of your export regulations before listing saves everyone time and money. Cross-border selling extends your market significantly but only if the listing is built for international buyers.
