For a retailer weighing whether this makes sense, the questions are practical and about scale and fit. The economics tend to favour larger stores with many aisles and thousands of items, where the manual version of this work is genuinely costly and coverage is genuinely hard; a small shop where a person can eyeball the shelves in minutes gains little. The store layout has to suit a robot moving among customers, and the information it produces is only worth collecting if the business is set up to act on it.
