MicroLED is a screen technology built from tiny individual light emitting diodes, each acting as its own pixel. Like OLED it can switch pixels fully off for true black, but because the emitters are inorganic it can reach high brightness without the gradual wear that can affect organic screens.
Manufacturing remains the hurdle, since placing millions of microscopic emitters precisely is difficult and expensive, so the technology has appeared first in large premium displays and specialist uses. Its promised mix of contrast, brightness and longevity keeps it a target for makers, even as cheaper technologies cover most everyday screens for now.
