Four legged robots, able to climb stairs and cross rough ground that wheels struggle with, are increasingly used to inspect places that are awkward or dangerous for people. In 2026 they patrol sites such as power stations, construction areas and pipelines, carrying cameras and sensors to check equipment and spot problems.
Their advantage is reaching difficult terrain while carrying instruments that record detailed readings on a regular schedule. They are not fast or cheap, so they earn their place mainly where sending a person is slow, costly or hazardous. Routine, repeatable inspection is emerging as one of their clearest practical uses.
